Investigations, according to the Salesforce Platform Owner

1 + 1

One platform owner and one administrator, managing Salesforce and its connected integrations

The company

Activ8 Solar Energies is one of Ireland's leading solar energy providers, with more than 25,000+ installations across homes and businesses and over 300 employees.

Behind its sales and operations teams is a heavily customized Salesforce environment, supporting different roles, permissions, automations, and business processes.

Eric Praud, Salesforce Platform Owner at Activ8, is responsible for keeping that environment running, including the integrations connected to it.

“It means you're very, very busy every day of the week.”

The challenge: finding answers in a complex Salesforce environment

With only two people managing Salesforce, Eric's team had developed a deep understanding of the environment. But even with naming conventions and descriptions in place, investigating unexpected behavior was time-consuming.

Documentation couldn't always keep up with the pace of change. Hundreds of interconnected configurations and automations meant that answering a simple question could require opening multiple Salesforce Flows and manually tracing what happened.

“For one status that changed from X to Y, it could take us like easy half an hour just to know which flow. Which automation touched it.”

And that was only the beginning of the investigation.

The result: from 30 minutes to 2–3 minutes

With dx0, Eric can describe what happened in plain English and ask which Salesforce automations might be responsible.

dx0 searches the configuration and identifies the relevant Flows, giving Eric a starting point without the manual investigation.

“It's, you know, it's night and day. You're talking, well, let's say from half an hour to 2–3 minutes. So we divided our investigating time by 10.”

The same approach helps Eric locate email templates, understand where they're used, and investigate behavior that would otherwise require extensive searching.

Beyond investigations: documentation and better use of time

Eric also uses dx0 to generate documentation, help articles, training materials, and user stories with acceptance criteria.

Instead of spending hours reconstructing how the environment works or writing repetitive documentation, he can focus on improving the systems his business relies on.

“You take half an hour here and half an hour there. At the end of the week, you've maybe lost, you could have lost a full day, a full 8 hours, you know.”

For Eric, the biggest value remains the ability to find answers quickly.

“It's all about that investigation time that to me took way too long.”

Enterprise software intelligence in practice

Activ8's experience illustrates a familiar challenge: as enterprise systems become more customized, the knowledge required to maintain them becomes increasingly difficult to access.

dx0 helps platform owners uncover that knowledge directly from their systems, reducing the effort required to investigate changes, understand existing business logic, and keep complex environments manageable.

Customers can use dx0 independently, as Activ8 does, or work directly with our team when they need help understanding their environment and planning what comes next.

Understand your enterprise environment.
